I bought this drive to add my large CD collection to my iTunes library. I've also used it to watch DVDs. The drive is purely "plug and play" for a Mac computer. Just plug in the USB port and it's ready to use. It is powered by the USB port, so it drains the laptop battery. So far I haven't had any problems recognizing and using the hard drive. The driver is pretty thin. I wish the USB cable was longer. I haven't tried burning a CD or DVD, but playback is fine.
