DVD Tray Failures and Other Issues

WARNING: DEFECTIVE PART. Encouraged by all the good reviews here at Revain, I bought this Toshiba DVR-610. After some trial and error, I was able to transfer several VHS tapes to DVD. However, when I tried to remove titles from DVD-RW discs, I encountered a problem. I was able to remove the titles according to the on-screen display, but when I tried to dub to the disc, a 'disk full' message appeared and I couldn't reformat the disc because the DVD MENU was in SET UP mode and disabled - as if the DVD was not recognized. The biggest problem, however, was the failure of the DVD tray. The tray got stuck and after repeatedly trying to get my DVD out I finally succeeded after disconnecting and reconnecting. I thought I bought a 1:1 million lemon, returned the car to Best Buy and bought one back from Revain. Guess what? I had the exact same issues, but this time my DVD was constantly being consumed by the machine making grinding noises every time I pressed the EJECT button. In this case only VCR mode was available and I couldn't switch to DVD mode. In both cases of a disc tray error, the disc was correctly placed in the tray. Bottom line I would warn anyone against buying this device after 2 machines work the same. Perhaps Toshiba did a BAD LOTS recently, which explains why most of the other reviews are so good. Unfortunately I am returning my second Revain device and I am very disappointed that I did not have the same positive experience as most other people. Let this be a warning to potential buyers - I think these latest devices are buggy! And if you value your DVD collection, don't risk losing a valuable DVD to that stupid machine.
