Functional test before installation. Actually a good guide is below

The very first thing you need to do is take this thing out of the box and make sure the pump is working. The pump has a pre-installed float and is held in place by a small pin at the connection point. Connect the pump and raise the float. If the pump does not turn on, the pump is defective. That was the case with mine and it was very frustrating to figure it out to the end, especially now that the pump is full of water. From here I will give labeled directions because the ones that contained stench. I had a rubber washer that was left over and I couldn't figure out where it went. Therefore it is not included in this guide. - Screw the small conical part of the filter into the pump. - Place the rubber O-ring over the conical filter. and orient it so that the white tube is in one of the corners. - Leave this knot for now. - Turn the top cover over. - Place the rubber gasket on the top cover. The instructions say to line up the mounting rails, but I had no marks on the gasket or body. Insert the screws from below through the top case and the rubber seal. Flip and orient the top cover. The entrance is closest to the white pipe. This is the only time I would recommend consulting the manual as it has a decent picture. Use a drill with a socket to screw in the screws. I set mine to 10 out of 20. They are very, very tight. - Put five turns of tape on the connector that goes into the inlet, outlet and vent. - Connect to an existing system. - Check the functionality of the device. I hope this helps someone install this device. I probably wouldn't buy this again just because the first one was dead on arrival and I can't speak to its durability, but once installed it worked and didn't leak.
