This ATO had two characteristics that attracted me when testing it versus the competition (which I already use in another tank and paid almost double for); an added safety feature that calculates the total amount of water in your tank to ensure it doesn't overflow, and an LED indicator. Additional overfill prevention features are always welcome, especially at this price point! The LED display was an interesting addition, however, and while it was what attracted me to purchasing this model, it could end up being a design flaw. Depending on the wavelength of the emitted light, algae growth can occur on the sensor, causing an overflow (which must be stopped by numerous other safety features). This risk can be minimized by cleaning the lens occasionally, and I decided it was worth the risk to install knowing the condition of my ATO. My tank isn't clean (for many reasons) so I used to have to remove the cap or wait for an alarm from my ATO to know when it was empty, but now I have an LED indicator to tell me when it's time to fill the tank (and warn me about other possible problems)! Only time will tell if the LEDs will grow algae. Overall it was easy to set up and works as expected and I have no complaints!
