We recently replaced our carpeted staircase with a luxury vinyl sheet (very happy with the results when you think about it). It's not very slippery as the vinyl is a little clingy but our dogs have longer claws than they should and slipped. One of our dogs is a 9 year old Labrador who doesn't use his hind leg and walks up and down perfectly with these handles. They are made of transparent hard rubber but are visible when looking down. I don't think they'll be noticeable if you're on the lower level looking up the stairwell (our vinyl planks have a tan wood finish). They have a rough texture similar to coarse sandpaper, but are not rough or uncomfortable when walking barefoot. None of them moved or slipped, and we often use the stairs. I was concerned that pet hair would get underneath and lose its stickiness, but it didn't move (and our stairs get furry very quickly!). They were easy to install; First make sure the steps are really clean. We vacuum and wipe the stairs without any problems. I would advise putting them in the front rather than the middle of the tread as that is where most people and pets put their feet. Overall I'm very impressed and think it's a great help. UPDATE 11/23/21: Still loving these stair grabs! Still not moved, easy to clean and really helped our dogs not to slip on the stairs. I think some have fingernail scratches, but nothing noticeable unless you look closely.
