I should have looked at more reviews and realized that others have the same problem Bought in 2017 to use with 1 children's bike. The company provided a replacement (significant damage to the car and bike but there was nothing I could do about it). The second breakdown was in January 2019, the rivet broke again. I asked if there were any design issues and they emailed me "no security issues" and I received a second replacement. The third failure was in August 2019, this time one of the "buttons” for folding the device inside the tube broke. "This is not a warranty case," the company said in an email. I called to speak to someone; They refuse to call back and say "must be in writing". I emailed again with photos - no response. If you search "button" in the reviews, you will see that many people are having the same issue and the company is shipping a replacement. So they are aware that they have problems, but deal with complaints inconsistently. Now I'm looking for a new model.
