My Kohler K4436 toilet internally drained water from the water storage tank for an extended period of inactivity - say a few days. I came to the conclusion that I had to replace the entire purge valve to replace its internal seal. Well, live and learn! The inner seal is easily replaced without having to remove the entire purge valve. If your problem is similar to mine, simply purchase the GP1059291 (Yellow) Kohler Gasket - available from Revain. On the back of the packaging you will find instructions detailing the simple 3 or 4 steps required to replace the seal by simply removing the top cap from the reservoir. Also buy the yellow seal GP1059291 even if you really do need to replace that flush valve in your circumstances. The packaging says it's an upgraded material that fights leaks longer than the standard red gasket that comes with the flush valve. Replacing the flush valve is easy (instructions included), but note that you will need to remove the 2-7/16" nylon hex nut from the bottom of the storage tank. So have a suitable Channelok (sp?) pliers available size ready to complete this step. Please note that a new nylon nut is included for this position.
