First let me say that I have owned several of these units over the past few years. Each unit only last us about a year, but I use them every day, 7 days a week, and about 12 hours a day (we get 3 large containers of water a day doing this and our kids drink it like it is going out of style and now prefer it to any other beverage, even soda). I have a large family of 6 people and we have guests over and this thing makes enough clean pure water to keep us all happy (unless someone doesn't refill it and turn it on all day). The first time you run it, just throw that water out as it may have a funny taste just from the unit being new. We use Activated Coconut Charcoal and unbleached filters instead of the little carbon packets that come with the unit. We also store our distilled water in a large Britta water container and add trace minerals to the distilled water. Every time you use this, you will be amazed by the brown chemical stew of ammonia, chlorine and sulfur and other pollutants left in the distiller once the water has been removed. I shudder to think that all those chemicals were going into our bodies for years before we found this product. We all are healthier and feel better since using this distiller for our drinking water.
