This machine has multiple uses.

Bought this awhile back because I didn't want to keep buying filters, and needed to remove more contaminants than filters can accomplish. First off, I use a timer set to 4.5 hours and never let it auto shut off. This nets about 90% full and leaves enough at the bottom to prevent burning which makes it harder to clean. If you do this as others have mentioned, cleaning is as simple as letting it sit filled with 15-20% vinegar solution over night. No burned or caked on scaly crud. and I usually…

Pros
  • The distiller is easy to use and requires minimal maintenance
Cons
  • The machine's plastic components may be prone to cracking or breaking over time, leading to leaks or water damage

Nice machine, but it uses a TON of energy.

This unit does a fantastic job distilling water. The water is absolutely pure with nothing in it to grow bacteria, etc. I purchased this unit to clean the water for my humidifier in the winter. The thought process was to use distilled water so I wouldn't need to constantly replace the filters. The problem I encountered was that my electric bill went up about as high as would be usual in a hot summer with the A/C running frequently.I've tried drinking the water, but even after the unit has…

Pros
  • It provides consistent results every time, ensuring the purity of your water
Cons
  • The distillation process may not be effective at removing certain contaminants, such as pesticides or industrial chemicals

Fan failed after about six months.

I bought this at a discount from Kate's Books (I suspect they had located a batch of returned or defective products). After abut six months the fan failed, and they took the position it was past their warranty. On this purchase I used a credit card with an extended warranty (a CITI Forward), rather than my gift card balance, since problems with these products do seem moderately common.Otherwise I was happy with the product. If you stop it before the end, most of the impurities will be in the…

Pros
  • I prefer the glass to plastic
Cons
  • The price point of the Megahome Water Distiller may be unaffordable for some consumers

Definitely Would Purchase Again

I was looking at the cheapest distillers offered on Walmart, but there were too many people unhappy with them, so I settled on this one. I'm glad I did. I have been using it for over 6 months now. I have followed the advice of others and don't let it run dry although it did once and shut itself off with no problem. I start by filling it with hot water to get a jump start, and set a timer for 4 hours 45 minutes, and that leaves a small amount in the bottom of the 1 gallon tank. After a number of

Pros
  • The distiller can be used for both domestic and commercial purposes, making it versatile
Cons
  • The machine may require frequent descaling or cleaning due to mineral buildup, potentially adding to maintenance costs

High quality build and materials

Much higher quality build and materials compared the ones at half the price. To be worth the money, it will have to last at least 6 years. My cheaper one only lasted 3 years.I took off one start because this unit is noisy, much louder than my previous one.

Pros
  • It is a cost-effective way to obtain clean water, saving you money in the long run
Cons
  • The distillation process can produce excess heat in the surrounding environment, which may not be ideal during hot weather

Good device with a few snags.

For me the sachet of activated charcoal is uselessly small. I don't bother with it. Instead, I buy bulk activated charcoal and spread a layer in the bottom of the pitcher. After a few hours and one or two stirrings, the water is nearly tasteless. At first this will leave some black powder in your water, but it is harmless. I use cheap charcoal made for aquariums (maybe one dollar per year), but you might want to find medical or food grade charcoal.Otherwise the distiller seems OK. If it lasts…

Pros
  • It removes impurities and pathogens from water, making it safe for everyone in your household
Cons
  • The product may not be readily available in all regions or markets, limiting accessibility for some consumers

Not worth the money, paper thin metal bottom

There is no factory warranty, they will not honor the factory warranty, because no matter what you do to clean it, they will say you did it wrong and that's what causes the PIN HOLES to develop.Cheap paper thin stainless steel tank junk.

Pros
  • The distiller is perfect for those who live in areas with poor water quality
Cons
  • The machine's plastic components may be difficult to recycle or dispose of responsibly

Simple, easy, effective

If you care about the quality of your water, then this is definitely for you. Anyone willing to read past corporate propaganda knows that the store-bought charcoal filters (things like Brita, Pur) don't actually work very well at all at removing sediment. They simply clean up the taste so that choking down poisonous city water is more tolerable. Reverse osmosis can do a better job at removing sediment, but still does nothing for bacteria, and just as with any water filter, will actually begin…

Pros
  • You can save time and money by not having to buy bottled water or replace filters frequently
Cons
  • The product's distillation process may not be well-suited for certain types of water, such as hard water or highly acidic water

Great source of clean drinking water

I've been using a water distiller for 20+ years. Think this is my fourth unit. This particular model is faster than my last several models and although it requires unplugging two plugs and carrying the heavy metal container to the sink to refill, it is also a lot easier to clean out the residual gunk every time at the sink. Models that are refilled with the plastic pitcher allow the minerals to collect and harden in the metal container and it becomes very difficult if not impossible to clean…

Pros
  • Water Filtration & Softeners
Cons
  • The machine is relatively large and may take up precious countertop space in small kitchens

Worth every dime. Great purchase

I had been researching these for months not knowing if the extra money for this unit was worth it. Trust me, it is. I've been using this a few times a week for 2 months now and I am kicking myself for not buying it sooner. It's well made, it's quiet and it works beautifully. It does take 3-4 hours to distill one gallon but that's faster than the cheaper versions and worth the wait knowing it won't break or leak. Wonderful machine.

Pros
  • The distiller is compact and easy to store
Cons
  • The machine's plastic collection container may become discolored or stained over time, potentially detracting from its aesthetic appeal

exactly like it should of by the third batch

The water it made tested out at 000, exactly like it should of by the third batch. The water that I put thru it comes from my reverse osmosis unit which tests out at 044, my regular tap water from Lake Michigan tests out at 165, Our lovely govt says that water is drinkable up to 500. By using my reverse osmosis water in this distiller, it practically cuts down if not out, on the cleaning of the unit, the water tastes great, no charcoal filter is needed. The only issue with this unit is that it…

Pros
  • Water Softeners
Cons
  • The machine's plastic components could potentially contain harmful chemicals or additives, despite being BPA-free

This is my 2nd one for my opinion

The first one my I husband purchased it over 20 years ago it still worked but it also took 6 hours to boil 1 gallon. Great machine

Pros
  • Best Rated Distiller on Amazon.
Cons
  • The machine's plastic components may wear down or deteriorate over time, leading to decreased sustainability

Our Megahome lasted almost six years

This is a very reliable product. We live in a city with extremely hard water and the typical consumer water filters like Pur and Brita do not remove the funky taste. So we distill all our drinking, cooking, and coffee-brewing water with this Megahome unit -- then we pass the distilled water through a Pur pitcher filter too. The result is a taste as good as Aquafina without the waste of reverse osmosis. Our family uses it all day long, As soon as one batch is one, we start up another, caching up

Pros
  • True Steam Distillation System
Cons
  • The product requires a power source, limiting its ability to be used in remote areas

Imagine, TASTELESS water.woooooooooah!

My parents have had distillers just like this one for the last 15 or so years. I took clean water for granted! After getting married and living in NM (GROSS dusty, dirty, blaaaaaahhhh water) and then moving back to Oregon I thought this water here was delicious! HaHAhaHA.after 4 years of drinking tap water, and recently beginning to make cold brew coffee, I noticed that it had a chlorine taste, and when I'd use distilled water from the store to make cold brew, it was always better. So I decided…

Pros
  • The stylish design of the distiller fits perfectly into any modern kitchen
Cons
  • The distillation process may not be as effective at removing impurities as other methods, such as reverse osmosis

Where did all the distilled water go?

On a March 2020 trip to the store, I was surprised to find that they were completely out of jugs of distilled water that I need for my CPAP machine. Checking around I found that it had all been snatched up like so many other products. No more worries now that I have purchased this machine. It is easy to use, a little noisy but not too bad and in about 5 hours, I have enough distilled water to last quite a while. But I think I also will use it for drinking and making tea. The water is very fresh

Pros
  • Tools & Home Improvement
Cons
  • The distillation process can take a while, potentially inconveniencing users in a hurry

Very Good Quality Water Distiller

I've been using another Megahome Water Distiller, same model for the past 5 or 6 years and it has worked wonderfully each time. I decided to get another one because we go through so much distilled water that the one distiller just couldn't keep up. With two, we never run low on water. These are excellent distillers and I expect them to last for years. I decided to spend the extra money on what I knew was a very good quality distiller instead of spending half as much and getting a cheaper one. I

Pros
  • It produces high-quality distilled water that is perfect for cooking, making tea, or coffee
Cons
  • The distillation process produces waste water, which may be seen as wasteful by some environmentally-conscious users

Very glad I bought this product! Once you use it, you won't believe the amount of chemicals that are actually in tap water. After the first couple uses, the bottom of the boiling container starts collecting all these white chemicals and believe me it starts collecting a lot! The water that comes out after distilling is pure water, no chemicals, no nasty tap water taste, and certainly has brought me to the conclusion that I will always have a distiller in my house and will never drink tap water…

Pros
  • It is a healthier option as it eliminates toxins and impurities commonly found in tap water
Cons
  • The machine may not be suitable for those with limited storage space, as the product itself is relatively large

Best tasting water ever!

First let me say that I have owned several of these units over the past few years. Each unit only last us about a year, but I use them every day, 7 days a week, and about 12 hours a day (we get 3 large containers of water a day doing this and our kids drink it like it is going out of style and now prefer it to any other beverage, even soda). I have a large family of 6 people and we have guests over and this thing makes enough clean pure water to keep us all happy (unless someone doesn't refill…

Pros
  • The distiller is energy-efficient and saves on water and electricity bills
Cons
  • The distillation process may not be as efficient as other methods, such as filtration or boiling, in terms of energy consumption

Agree with others on my review.

The many reviews on the product are quite accurate in my opinion. It has been working well for me for about 6 months now with no problems. It is similar to another unit that I got from Sears in the 80's that lasted more than 10 years, although the fan did get a bit noisy as the unit got older. This design seem to improve on some small weak points of the previous version that I had. I like the plastic water holder as it is light and not so prone to being dropped as a glass one would be. If you…

Pros
  • Using the Megahome Water Distiller promotes a healthier lifestyle and ensures you always have pure, safe, and stylish water to drink
Cons
  • The product's warranty or customer service may be lacking, impacting users who experience issues with the machine
