Review on Platinum Tools 100010B Connector 100 Pack: Perfect Connectivity Solution for Professionals by Russ Mashlan

As meticulous as only a professional electrician would want.

This review was written by a beginner who decided to try his hand at making connection cables. I'm going to buy patch cords from a mass manufacturer and here's why. I've been able to make several compatible cables with these "EZ" connectors. But if you don't have much free time, this activity is a waste of time. Using high quality CAT6 24 AWG shielded cable, it took me several attempts and several hours to get the cable properly tested. I'm new here, but I'm not stupid either. It took a lot of time and patience. Tips that may increase your mileage as you continue working on the project: (1) Strip at least three inches of wire - much shorter and you'll have a hard time controlling the wires while threading them. through tiny holes; (2) Twist the wire slightly while straightening before inserting; (3) Clamp the ends of each wire at an angle so each has a narrow tip - this will help feed them through the holes; (4) the wires still bend when you thread them - I've learned that it helps to look from the side and behind while threading the wires; (5) A death grip is not required when crimping and can crush the connector - a strong grip is enough to pierce any wire; (6) Great care is required when cutting off the excess so as not to damage the plastic of the connector and cause breakage; Some have successfully used an EZ crimp tool, but I used the blade of my own Trendnet crimp tool and made some useless connectors. and (7) you can save a great deal of time (hence $) and frustration simply by purchasing a cable from a bulk manufacturer. This is what I'm going to do for the connection between my 24-port patch panel and the switch connection. I get consistent length, no rewiring errors, and lots of color options to make my network rig look like a muscle car at the drive-in on a Saturday night. Successful networking.
