I have a 100 year old grand piano that I used to put on carpet. I bought these because I wanted small protectors; However, they were too small for my piano wheels. Since the tread shown is a concave circular surface, a spherical wheel up to 1-1/4 inch in diameter will do, but not a wheel shaped like a flat-surfaced automobile tire (I call width). My piano wheels are 1-1/4" in diameter and 1-1/4" wide so they don't hit the concave guard shells. I ended up using them on an antique 2 seater chair and they worked. great for that. The two-seat wheels are 1 inch in diameter and 1/2 inch wide. This size is pretty much the maximum I would choose.
