Review on 🐠 Finnex Ray2 Aquarium LED Daylight: Efficient Lighting Solution for Vibrant Underwater Life by Angela Jackson

Well built and powerful but the aquarium looks washed out

I have an aquarium with deep high tech plants and this light should be the second light to complement the higher end Build My LED (BML ) Dutch XP 6500k device . Good Features: Good price, looks great/very modern, very low profile, strong brackets, plants grow fast so it can definitely grow plants, well built/feels solid. Things to look out for: (I don't want to say "bad" as they might be a plus for some) Washed Out Colors: The BML unit has a mix of red, blue and white LEDs and brings out the colors in my pool. Daylight FINNEX Ray2 has only a large number of white LEDs. The result is a very soft, washed-out look. Colors are not highlighted. everything is very smooth. I left it on for a few days and several people have commented on how different (in a bad way) my aquarium is from before Short power cord: the cord barely reaches the floor let alone the outlet. All power accessories (light, power head) can reach outlets so they are not too far away. Fixed Mounting Position: BML light mounts allow you to "rotate" the light by pointing the light bar forward or backward to focus the light. The I/EI can place the light closer to the front of the tank and rotate the light up a few degrees, pushing the light backwards away from the font. Finnex is a fixed position lantern, so it only emits light straight down. This is fine in 90% of applications, but would be a nice cheap feature. Conclusion - I like the Finnex product but this particular light is not for me. I'll go back and order Finnex Planted+ which doesn't give a higher PAR but I don't need it thanks to my BML. Plant+ has a mixed color palette which I hope will show off the color better and for $78 (Finnex) vs $230 (BML) I'll do what I need to finish lighting my tanks.

Pros
  • I'm looking forward to
Cons
  • So so
