Review on πŸ”§ Revamp Your Transmission with the Bushing Fix UP1KIT - Transmission Shift Cable Bushing Repair by Carlos Phillips

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits Corvette C5 Automatic Transmission

The bushing broke while shifting manually on a Corvette C5 (2004) and I was stuck in first gear. Getting to the socket is not that difficult. Remove the center armrest (4 Phillips screws) and the center console upper trim (two 10mm nuts, three T20 Torx wrenches). Disconnect any connectors you come across. The T20 is located next to the cigarette lighter, behind the mouthpiece and behind a small ventilation panel next to the ignition. Remove the four 10mm nuts holding this shifter assembly and then remove the sliding clip behind the shifter where you can see the cable going into the dash. The shifter comes out. You can see the main shift cable under the center console next to the vehicle's torque tube. Use a small flat head or pick to remove the broken grommet from the main cable. I recommend wearing thick gloves here, as you can cut yourself on the bumps under the center console. The instructions for the new repair kit are simple, but you may not be able to use the pliers as directed to tighten the new Corvette clamp because there isn't much room for the pliers if you're trying to rewire the entire shift. Lever unit with bushing. I had to take a large flat head and press it against the torque tube with the entire shifter assembly in the way. It worked. Check the switch and make sure it is in all gears. Install everything in reverse order.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
