Works as intended. I checked with a magnet, not steel. So probably ss in some form. It shouldn't just sit over the drain like a plastic mushroom with a pop-up center. You need to push the drain down so that the outside edge is against the inside wall. With a little running water or some washing-up liquid, it is very easy to stick in place and keeps the water in the sink forever. This outer edge seals and grips. So when the bone is dry, it gives resistance like rubber on dry ground. I left the sink full within 2 inches of the top, with clothes soaked through the night from 9pm to 8am, and no water list at all. Easy to grab and take off.
