A very good lens when you are unsure of what you are looking at. It's not as fast as the rest of my glass, but it's still a good lens. Fast and quiet autofocus, easily adjustable friction control for zoom slides. It's even positioned to be changed with one hand while holding the lens. The IS is good enough that you don't need a tripod, not even one as slow as 1/60 or even a few stops slower. It's heavy, but if you're used to carrying gear around, it won't be big. deal with it. It's still lighter than my wildlife telephoto, wide-angle prime, and macro prime that I often carried with me when I wasn't sure where we were going to end up. It's much more compact and even fits in my purse, although I have to admit that my bag is quite large.
