Sits directly above the monitor. If the light wasn't on, you wouldn't even know it was there, so it fits perfectly into the interior and doesn't create too much clutter. I love how bright the light is. I've tried using light strips to do what this one does. And didn't work that well. There is a spot on my desk where there used to be a lamp so yes I would definitely say it's worth buying.
