Review on πŸ” Review: Freud 6" x 10T Pro Dado Set (SD206) - A Comprehensive Analysis by Jason Sisawang

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The cleanest dado cutting stack ever!

Overall I would recommend this set. I have an inexpensive Rigid R4518 compact saw that I have tweaked to cut straight. I can do a good job with it, I just have to take it slow. I bought the SD206 because my saw can only handle 6 inch stacks. 8 inch stack for many years and very satisfied. For the price I thought it would be a good set. The "unboxing" experience was not very good. The "screws" that hold the blades in the plastic case have been tightened to about 1mm ft.lbs. I had to poke them with pliers to unscrew them. I don't particularly like the front, the orientation on the back where you have to stack everything on different sides and unscrew the two knobs to get to the blades. But those are just minor annoyances. The reason I cannot give this product 5 stars is that it is not accurate, at least not the set that I received with the saw. The printed material on the case that comes with the SD206, as well as the PDF download chart available on Feud's website, says that for a 3/4 inch cut, you need a right half, a left half half, three choppers, and 3 1/16" spacers (other than washers). DO NOT DO THIS ON PROJECT PARTS! I HIGHLY recommend that you test the cut crowbar before trusting the configuration settings on the box. I'm lucky that I checked it out. I made a zero gap insert out of a fairly expensive plastic laminated with Baltic birch. I would ruin the piece. The recommended configuration was off by 1/16" (see photos). I removed one of the 1/16" shims and the kerf was almost perfect (the problem of keeping it perfect could be due to blade runout). It seems like their setup instructions could have been a lot better. Here's how I would improve them: 1) Make sure all configurations are really accurate, I don't think so. 2) Clearly mark the right and left blades on the blades themselves. Don't hide confirmation of an experienced carpenter's guess in a small illustrated drawing in the manual showing some of the disc's teeth and their cutting angle. any configuration. It may seem that my review is rather negative, but in fact it is not. i love the product This makes the best dado cuts of any stack I've ever used. I just think it can be improved and I try to do my part to help and not just complain without offering solutions. Freud, thanks for a great product. I buy a lot of your things. Dado blades, cutters, precision saw blades, Forstner cutters. I like them all. Carry on in the same spirit. Hope for an improved stack in the future.
