Inexpensive solution to improve the look of ugly or damaged worktops

After burning a tennis ball sized hole in our 30 year old worktops, an online search turned up this removable worktop. as a solution. I wanted something fickle, easy to apply and with a soft pattern. This peel and stick countertop was everything I was looking for and economical too! It took me about an hour to apply. I started with the smallest rack between the fridge and the oven. I had trouble tucking the pages into tight gaps (a second person would help, but I hate asking for help), but I got over it with some trimming and patching. After getting a feel for the process and liking the look of my first counter, I moved on to the main counter. The larger room was a little easier to maneuver and I gained confidence in using this product. The instructions were a little vague with no instructions on how to handle the stitches so I overlaid each section a bit which worked well. The faux marble pattern is very gentle on both seams and small imperfections in the countertop (remember that hole I mentioned earlier?). Moving slowly, I used the smooth tool to remove as many air bubbles as possible. I eliminated the remaining air bubbles by inserting a needle and smoothing them out. Ideal? Not even close, but you can't see them, and they're small, so who cares? I got into a lot of trouble around the corner and around the sink. My partner was quick to point out my shortcomings, but overall I'm very happy with how he looks. In fact, I used leftover paper to cover our old beige dishwasher that didn't match our new black appliances. Overall I am very happy with the ease of use of the product and the quality of the contact paper. It has a glossy sheen that is easy to clean and I have a feeling it will last for years. Also, I have enough leftovers to repair or replace parts if needed. If you're on the fence, give it a try. I recommend the suggested set that comes with two straightening tools and a precision knife if you don't already have them in your toolbox. They definitely helped me with the installation.

Pros

Cons
  • Good but not great
