Bought with my eee PC 10005HAP, partly in case I needed to download software from a CD or DVD, but mostly for my own sake eee can use PC as a travel DVD player. It is suitable for both purposes. In the case of DVD-Video playback, I was a bit surprised that there wasn't any software for this purpose (and Windows Media Player didn't have the right codec), but finding free software on the internet was easy - I chose VLC Media Player and it works great. Most importantly, using a battery-powered eee PC provides the DVD drive with enough power so that I can use it to watch DVDs without plugging the computer into AC power. You must connect a computer for the installation to complete without error. As I don't expect much from this and expect an outlet to be handy when I do this isn't an issue. I haven't used the drive to burn CDs or DVDs, so I can't comment on that, but given the above, I won't rely on battery power for this. As others have said, it doesn't feel overly stable when mounted on the included stand. I don't really need it to stand upright so it's not a problem for me, but I'm wondering why ASUS bothered with this stand in the first place. . The actuator itself is so light that pressing the button applies pressure to the entire actuator, so this can be tricky - I often have to hold the actuator with one hand while pressing the button with the other. A little annoying, but doesn't detract from the show.
