Portable, easy to use; Perfect for netbooks

I love my ASUS external USB optical drive. It's extremely portable and fully powered by USB ports, which is an absolute must-have for portable external drives. No need to search for outlets. To do this, it is connected to the computer via two USB ports. It also works well when shaken, which is often necessary when traveling. It's thin enough to fit in the side pocket of my neoprene carrying case for my Eee netbook. When mounting on a table, a stand is supplied, but of course it is not required.

Exactly what I was looking for.

I needed an optical drive to install games I was going to order from Revain. See I have an Asus Eee PC 1005HAB netbook and I was dying to get myself some games. Revain and I were not disappointed. Besides installing games, I use it to put all my CDs in iTunes and burn random movies to disc. One thing I do have to complain about is that the tray feels a bit flimsy with the drive open, or maybe a looser fit would be a better choice of word. This is probably common with additional drives. Overall,

Perfect match for my new Asus T91MT Netbook

I bought this to use with my new Asus T91MT Netbook. It's the perfect fit and finish to complement my T91MT. I don't use the included stand because I prefer to hold the discs horizontally. It comes with a mini USB 2.0 cable with a Y adapter that requires two free USB ports on your computer. That's my only gripe because my netbook, like most others, only has two USB ports. But I think it's still better than needing a separate power supply. You connect the mini-USB end to the drive, and both USBโ€ฆ

Almost the best external components

The drive works as advertised with no issues with features like tray and tray and no speed issues. The only real problem I have is that the drive is designed by Asus and presumably for Asus laptops and netbooks. Then why would Asus use a corded drive that can't connect to all USB ports on their own hardware? Maybe I'm an outsider, but I'm mildly allergic to touchpads, so I use a laptop-sized mouse most of the time. With the mouse installed, the rest of the USB ports are on opposite sides of myโ€ฆ

Excellent USB powered DVD drive

I needed an inexpensive but good quality DVD drive for my netbook. After some research, I've narrowed down the choice between Asus and LG. Asus was $30 cheaper but didn't have a light rib like LG. This feature wasn't important to me (I have other backlit drives and very rarely, if ever, use this feature), so I went with Asus. The drive comes with installation software, a stand (so you can mount it vertically), and a reversible USB cable. If you need more power to run the drive, use both ends of

ASUS DVDRW + eee PC = Travel DVD Player

Bought with my eee PC 10005HAP, partly in case I needed to download software from a CD or DVD, but mostly for my own sake eee can use PC as a travel DVD player. It is suitable for both purposes. In the case of DVD-Video playback, I was a bit surprised that there wasn't any software for this purpose (and Windows Media Player didn't have the right codec), but finding free software on the internet was easy - I chose VLC Media Player and it works great. Most importantly, using a battery-powered eee

This is ASUS, what did you expect?

ASUS makes very solid products. I've had several ASUS motherboards and graphics cards and now this. Below is my rating. PACKAGING (5/5): Comes in a nice red box, my favorite color by the way. The items in the box are tightly packed and neatly arranged. Well thought through. AESTHETICS (5/5): Possibly the most attractive external DVD recorder I've ever seen. It is glossy and the faceplate has a very unique look. The included stand adds a nice touch and makes sense. EASY TO USE (4/5): Some mayโ€ฆ

Looks good just plug and play

It looks good and works great. I've used it on a Lenovo XP laptop, a three year old ASUS XP base system, a brand new Mini Jetway barebones running Linux, and a Dell Vista system. No problem, plug and play. The latest system is a Jetway Mini-ITX system running Linux. This system does not have a DVD/CD drive, so it must be booted from this drive. It worked flawlessly and started Ubuntu Live Linux without any problems, so you can install it. I've also used it to burn some DVDs without any issuesโ€ฆ
