Review on Sceptre C248W-1920RN Curved Monitor: 75Hz, Adaptive Sync, Built-in Speakers by Quincy Ahui

Revainrating 3 out of 5

They are best okay in my rating

Well, these monitors are pretty good, I'll say right away. With that being said I went back to see what the seller has posted since my purchase in July 2020 and noticed some very important changes. When I originally bought 2 of these monitors for work and play, I wanted them because they were advertised as "frameless". The photos on this seller page, as well as on the box itself, claim to be rimless. However, they are NOT truly rimless. Yes, the monitor's physical edge, the plastic bezel, is only a millimeter thick, but the viewable screen doesn't extend all the way to the edge. This means that when placed side-by-side, there is about 1.5cm (or 0.5 inch) black gap between the screens, even though the screens are physically touching. However, after some complaints, the seller seems to have removed the "no edge" description from the page.2. The position of the button on this thing is annoying. The buttons are clustered around the right side of the monitor, which means if you have two next to each other you'll have to awkwardly bend your arm to reach the buttons on either monitor if you ever want to change settings. But even without a disability, working with buttons is just tedious compared to monitors that have buttons down the front of their frame. I understand they wanted to limit space and hide as much as possible to make room for the screens, but that doesn't justify poor placement.3. Setting the refresh rate to 75Hz is surprisingly annoying. You might think it would be easy, but these monitors will take some time and require some tweaking on your computer before you can actually get them to work at 75Hz. These monitors don't have the most intuitive response to Windows, and their user interface is no better. They run at 75Hz at 1080p (assuming your GPU can handle it), so I can't complain at the end of the day. These monitors only have an HDMI and no VGA input. Of all these monitors could have, this is one legacy cable input and only ONE HDMI input. Why? Not even VGA, but DVI. I haven't seen a modern computer with DVI in years, let alone the latest monitors. The last time I saw a DVI input was on the monitors I just replaced with this scepter and they were almost 10 years old! I had to buy a Displayport to HDMI adapter since my GPU only has one HDMI output, 3 Displayport outputs and one VGA output. It made things a little frustrating. My complaints aside, this is a pretty good monitor. Colors are good, refresh works flawlessly and the curved screens make 2 screens side by side fantastic for my setup! I really like these monitors and for the price they are sold for I can't complain too much. about what I ended up with. The things I complained about were only because it wouldn't (or shouldn't) cost that much to add and/or replace them. I can't speak for speakers because I have mine that I plug directly into my computer. They attach to my VESA mount very well and at the end of the day I have two pretty decent monitors. However, once I finally start my new job and start earning some income, I'll be relatively quick to replace them with higher quality monitors that really have no limits. So if you want the absolute best gaming monitors, sorry, this isn't it. But if you need a rig for work and casual play, they're fine. Just be aware of their shortcomings.
