Sometimes a product doesn't need to be fancy to do the job. These heat pads are pretty basic, but they work better than some much more expensive ones I've bought that are made for reptiles. As for the more expensive ones, I have to throw them out now because they can never keep my frog tank at the right temperature no matter how I set them up. Not so with these. I installed it in and behind my 50 gallon vario, turned it on and watched the temp climb to the perfect 82F. With just a small calibration, the temperature has remained stable for the past 48 hours. You can make it a lot warmer, but I'm trying to alleviate my frog's humming time. I'm guessing they can crank temperatures up to around 89F on the highest settings.
