This item was purchased to close a bedroom door that slides easily on the bedroom carpet. Depending on the level of resistance, it takes about 7-8 pounds of force to close (light pressure). A common problem with the design is that the working push arm is too short to work with resistance. If you push it a little, it starts very slowly and then speeds up as it gains momentum. Try closing the door with about 3-4 inches of force on the hinges and see how hard you push. Unless the door is over a tile, or has absolutely *zero* resistance, or is extremely light (a very cheap hollow-core door might do), this block will struggle or attain a dangerous pulling force while permanently coiled in the spring. I suspect it will eventually fail rather catastrophically unless a lower bound on the settings is set. Installation is very simple and quick, which benefits the device. Removal is also very easy as is the patchwork to cover the 4 holes he made. Do not finally install the sliding plate on the door until you are sure that it works. Attach it in a different way. I used double sided tape, glad I did as I don't have a hole in the door now, just trimming. So if you're looking for a device that sounds like a scared cat sack every time you open a heavy door, or you have a very light, totally unencumbered door swing, this is the product for you.
