Review on Complete Home Repair Tool Set - Eastvolt 128-Piece Tool Set With Storage Toolbox by Richard Gaines

Nice Compact Starter Tool Set at a Good Price

This is a great little starter tool set, good for a small home or apartment, or to keep in your car. The online product copy says "household tool set,” and I think that’s an accurate description. The set is compact and is not heavy. The case closes with two tension-clamps. The case stands up well on the end opposite the handle, no four molded feet. The case will stand on the other three sides, but not steadily. There is no hole/apparatus to secure the case closed with a lock. The case closes tightly, but is not gasketed; I would not call the case water-resistant.All of the items lock into the case. The pliers want to come loose sometimes, as does the large screwdriver. The allen wrenches lock tightly into the case.I like the large screwdriver set for use with the included 30 bits. There also is a driver adapter so you can use the nine sockets with the screwdriver handle. Note that a lot of the 30 bits are repeats. The pliers are large and fit well in the hand, same with the adjustable wrench. The hammer is necessarily small to fit in the case, but gets the job done for small chores. The box cutter is retractable, with break-off blades; you get 8 new blades. It appears you could disassemble the cutter to put in a new blade, if you’re that thrifty. The ratchet handle is disappointingly small and does not fit well in-hand.The tape measure has a tiny little nylon lanyard (not big enough to slip around your wrist) and a small belt clip. It goes out to 10’ and is both lockable and retractable. The tape itself is surprisingly sturdy and holds its line without bend all the way out to 10’."128 Pieces.” Well, sure. But that’s not "128 tools.” The total count of the tools in the case comes to 69, and that includes all of the driver bits and the ratchet sockets. I did not count the electrical tape in this. So, the 128 seems to come from counting the little plastic box of assorted hardware as well.Documentation: This is an easy one—nothing. There is no documentation whatsoever with this product. On the bottom of the case is a sticker with an inventory of the tools inside, that’s it. No contact info for EastVolt. The online product copy offers no information on a warranty or any contact information. As always, this is does not reflect well on the product or the manufacturer—minus one star.Price: At approximately $40, that’s a pretty good price for this compact collection of basic tools. These aren’t heavy-duty tools to use on the jobsite, but for domestic applications I think they’ll do just fine. Seems this is a good price for the product.Bottom Line: This is a smart little starter tool kit, great for a car or an apartment, that comes in at a good price. The lack of warranty info or any options for customer service is problematic, and in my opinion does not reflect well upon the ultimate quality of the product.

Pros
  • Good quality and very handy.
Cons
  • The tools may have cheaply made bits that can break easily.
