In the mid and late 1980s, I became a victim of repetitive stress injuries to both hands and arms from excessive use of an ATEX computer terminal at Forbes. These were among the first generation of word processing tools (if not THE first) used at major newspapers and magazines. In the early 1990s, I was introduced to pocket sized electrical stimulation units during extensive physical therapy.Eventually, workers' compensation covered an Rx unit for me to keep at home, which eliminated the need for constant trips to a physical therapist and enabled me to take care of myself at home. That case long since closed, but the damage to my hands and arms persisted and periodically I experience "flares" that require the use of an electrical stimulation unit. That home unit lasted probably 25 years, or more. But no device survives forever, and the unit at last died. Thus during my last flare I returned to physical therapy and requested an Rx for a new electrical stimulation unit. Come to learn, medical insurance no longer covers such equipment.Fortunately, however, I also came to learn that prescriptions are no longer required to acquire such machines, when revain Vine happily surprised with an offer for exactly the kind of unit I occasionally need.I am very very happy to have acquired a working EMS muscle stimulation unit. It's quite different than the original (whose Minneapolis manufacturer is no longer in business). The original conducted electrical current but was not electronic and ran on household 9 volt batteries. I'd much rather have a rechargeable battery like the one embedded in this unit, though I'd prefer to have a real charger rather than a simple USB charging cable to charge it---and I'd also prefer a unit made in the U.S. over one made in China.I don't know if I'll get the promised 30 hours out of each battery charge, but probably won't need anywhere near 30 hours of charge at those times I need the unit.I'm also not sure how long the stimulation pads will last. Getting extras when and if I need replacements could be an issue as the pads and wires are specific to this Chinese unit.A word of caution: be very careful about settings on this machine. Test increases in electrical strength very slowly and at small increments. Turn up the juice too high--or misplace conduction pads--and you can really hurt yourself. If you like me need a unit like this, or your physician has prescribed one, be sure to follow the instructions carefully.
