Bought a 10 year, whole house filter plus softener and install kit and had a licensed plumber install it to maintain the warranty. Also replaced all the lines in the house with Pex at the same time. I cannot comment on the claims about cleaning pipes, but our tea kettle flaked off lime scale like crazy until it was almost as clean as new, and there is no scaling in the shower after 5 months of use. Cleaning it is a breeze! The installation instructions were rather vague, but not impossible to figure out. Make SURE your bypass valves are as close as possible to the filters to reduce water drainage when changing the filters. We can't be happier with the system. We have city water, and as many claims as they make about our water quality, our pre-filter change tells a different story! If you wait a little long on changing the filter, your skin in the shower will tell you it's time to do so. At this time, we have not had any contact with the manufacturers Customer Service Department, so cannot comment on that aspect. Having changed the pre-filter a couple times now, I can say that it is a lot easier than I thought it would be. Very little water spilled when doing it. At this time, I can't say enough about the water quality difference using this system. Clothes are cleaner, skin feels better, and, biggest thing for me, my wife is happy!
