Review on πŸ–₯️ Dell U2713HM 27 Inch High-Resolution LED Monitor (86Hz, β€ŽCVN85) - Discontinued Model by John Clements

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great monitor for casual gaming, web browsing and more

I've had this thing for about two days now (I know it's a very short time to review, but I've tested the monitor extensively on many different inputs). The package arrived in 2 days from PRIME and there was not even a scratch on the Revain box. The Revain shipping box includes another monitor box which was also spotless indicating very good delivery and handling with attention to detail and care so no complaints here. In the short time I've used it (and it's been almost continuously) I have to say I'm impressed. I seem happy to get a pixel perfect panel with 0 dead pixels, no backlight glare and minimal IPS glow (more on that later). I received a version A00 monitor released February 2014 as stated on the panel packaging and the panel itself (including the new LG display which fixes the hatching issues of previous models). So this thing was literally amazing, right out of the box. I'm currently running it from my ASUS G75VW-BBK5 (which you can buy from Revain) via a mini DisplayPort connection and I get the full 1440p resolution. I'm using a mini DP to DP cable and it works fine, although I'd like to say that when you press the cable, the lines on the screen start flashing, which is normal. These lines will not appear as long as the cord remains intact. I want to take a moment to talk about some of the things that people typically associate with this monitor. The colors on this monitor are absolutely amazing straight out of the box and very little gamma or temperature adjustment was required to make it suitable for everyday use and accurate color reproduction (factory calibration report included). It really is a very nice display and it just looks sexy on my all black desk. Now a few things: 1. Long lag and input lag are imperceptible - I'm an FPS gamer and while I don't compete seriously I spend probably 40 hours a week playing games like BF4 and COD and other free-to- Play games on Steam that require quick response. This monitor has an overall latency of about 22ms, which translates to about a frame and a half delay from a keypress/mouse movement to the image on the screen after that input. It's not even noticeable to me, especially at higher framerates (obviously input lag becomes MUCH more noticeable at lower framerates). It didn't affect my gaming performance and I feel the monitor is better or as responsive as my TN panel using the eDP connection in my ASUS laptop. Therefore, Input Lag (FOR ME) was not an issue in casual games, even FPS games. Games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3 look fantastic at this resolution with color reproduction. 2: This monitor can be overclocked to 90Hz. - This may appeal to those of you who think 60Hz isn't smooth enough for desktop work and even more so for gaming. It doesn't look like one of those Korean panels that can hit 120Hz or more, but it does hit a modest 90Hz, which is already a 50% increase, plus there's no color drop and the monitor is more responsive. In fact, I was surprised that my ASUS laptop was able to overclock this display, which was done through the nVidia control panel.3: The IPS glow is there, but it's not unbearable. This is only really noticeable when looking at the monitor from an angle from all directions, but on the forehead and even from the side it doesn't really matter except on dark screens. I usually play with no ambient light because I like the darkness in the gaming environment, but even then it's not noticeable. 4. The screen size is a big plus. This is my first monitor I've ever bought for desktop use and it's a huge improvement over the 1080p screens on my laptops I've had. I can open 3 windows side by side; Steam, Chrome, and Word or Excel are easily distinguished without minimizing or increasing the test as needed 5: Excellent Brightness and Contrast: I've watched movies and TV shows on this display before and it seems to be with contrast and brightness on dark screens unless you are not looking at angles where IPS becomes visible. Along with the ASUS PB278Q and the Viewsonic VP 2770 LED displays and I have to say I am very happy with this purchase because of everything I wanted this monitor nailed it all. Apparently when you order from Revain Prime LLC you will get the latest version and manufacturer of this panel. So I suggest ordering there even if the cost is $20 more. You may not need to return your panel as others have been deeply disappointed in the reviews below. Overall, I give this monitor a 5 star rating, although I mainly use it for web browsing and gaming, as well as some work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I will edit this review as I experiment with these applications.

Pros
  • Count on 3-year limited hardware warranty and 3-year Dell advanced exchange service.
