They work very well as long as you use a #2 cross except for installation. I've heard complaints about cleaning the groove, but that's probably due to using an oversized Phillips bit. (I know because it's happened to me!) While it's not necessary, drilling a pilot hole helps as the final set is much cleaner and flush with the wall. hang something! I recommend an #8 x 1" screw for most applications, and longer for parts farther from the wall. Standard stainless steel screws can also work. Overall, they are of very high quality and offer reliable strength when installed properly.
