As a photographer, I used up my laptop storage (250GB) and 500GB of additional external storage, so after watching some YouTube videos, I decided to use the Synology DS418 as a solution to this problem. Purchase: - Reliable - Price - Hot-Swap - Link Aggregation - Easy Setup - Four bays minimum a significant amount of time. There is a USB port on the back, as well as 2 x 1GB LAN ports (link aggregation compatible) and a USB port on the front. There are four compartments that are accessible from the front and the compartments are lockable. Size doesn't matter and will easily fit on a trolley shelf. Issues: Setting it up on a computer isn't as easy as I thought it would be, but as long as you spend time reading instructions online it doesn't matter. problems. I find that the time to get everything online is between 1-3 hours depending on how good you are with computers (it took me 3-4 hours to set up four different storage areas on the NAS (2 spare copies of Time Machine, a folder for my photo and a folder for the family shared storage and then to give access to my computers and my wife's computers where everything worked without problems) All this suggests that this is not a problem, because the Instructions from Synology are awesome Cost: $369.99 (and worth every penny) Pros: ++ Cost ++ Link Aggregation ++ Hot Swap ++ Design ++ Build Quality ++ Noise Cons: -- No things. The system works flawlessly and after setting it up and playing with it for a day or so everything seems really intuitive I installed this with 2x WD 2TB RED drives and the system worked la after connecting, follow the basic instructions and some automatic updates (only about 20 minutes). I have a volume with four folders (2 Time Machine backups, a photos folder and a shared storage folder) that have dedicated space and assigned users. Backups work seamlessly and our MacBooks connect directly to the system even when we go on a trip and come back. I can't believe I slept at the wheel when it comes to NAS and I will never use cloud storage again. Especially when I can access my NAS anywhere in the world over the Internet with just a few clicks. Do I Recommend: Yes, 5 stars and I would recommend this system to anyone who needs it.
