Good Enough: Power Tool Parts & Accessories

I don't use router tables for a lot of things, but I prefer to dress mortise, splines, and lugs on a router table than on a table saw. Mainly because in many cases these rills/grooves/dados stop. I also sometimes make a large profile bar. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I tried this one. it's good enough That's the best I can say about it. I've had both a Jessem Rout-r plate and a Woodpeckers insert in the past, they were much easier to change rings and had more ring options. However, I changed the rings about twice a year. So I don't need any additional expenses. Also, my router has a built-in height adjuster above the desk, so I personally don't think the lift is worth the extra money. The instructions that came with it are too complicated in my opinion. I just made a jig out of plywood and used a 1/2 inch top bearing cutter and then a jigsaw to remove the internal debris. I wasn't planning on messing with the corner clips but I installed them and they make a difference. The big question is, is it flat? Oh no. At first I was annoyed because I couldn't flatten the center of the plate. Then I remembered reading something about the milling inserts being specially coated so the weight of the milling insert pulls them straight. I drilled for my stand (the concentric rings are awesome btw, makes this step a breeze) and with the weight of the router and a few turns of the jackscrews it's flat. I'm not sure, but for under $40 I'd have no hesitation in putting a new one in if it sagged in a few years.
