I have read many different reviews that this bulb planter was strong enough or not strong enough and after trying to use it myself I would say that he would be really great for planting in raised beds or plowed beds. I tried using it in the soil around my house and it worked fine for the top 3-4 inches, but once it reached the clay it wouldn't go any further. There just wasn't enough leverage to go down a full 6 inches to plant the bulbs in hard soil and I hand dug all the holes anyway. For the price it was worth a try but it didn't work for me. But it has withstood repeated trials on hard ground, so this is a good quality item.
