What’s a wrench that won’t grip?

Not a wrench, that’s for sure. Needed it for a simple shower head change out ( just like in the picture). No matter how tight we turned it, it wouldn’t grab. Added a piece of silicone, the wrench gripped, but the thumb screw loosened. Rather difficult to hold the shower head with one hand, and turn the wrench with the other while trying to keep the thumb screw from turning. Frustrating for sure.
