to be honest I thought it was a large mattress topper when I opened the box. However, washing was easier, but drying it was another matter entirely. It still holds water even after a double spin, so if you've been looking for waterproofing, you've found it. It took 3 hours to dry, I hung it on a rope and had to call frequently for the water to run out before I could even think about drying it. Then, when it was dry on the bed, we didn't notice anything in terms of the cooling factor. We've had this mattress on our bed for a week now and it hasn't impressed me. It's almost like a hospital mattress and it's noisy, every time you get up and get out of bed or move you can hear the plastic noise. I would come back if there was an option. just be honest
