Review on πŸ–₯️ ASUS Designo MX27AQ 2560X1440 Frameless Monitor: Sleek & Stunning Display by Thomas Kishore

Form-Over function (updated 11/10/2015)

I feel like I have to balance the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this monitor because people should definitely be aware of some issues with this monitor. This is the same IPS display used in the Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-inch LED-backlit screen. Monitor. This is a very good IPS display. However, if you read Dell's reviews, you'll see that this display has some backlight issues. I sent back the first Asus MX27AQ because of quite a bit of backlighting, particularly in the top left corner, along the top and bottom left corners of the display. The new one has almost the same problem. This is one of the most beautifully designed monitors. It's very pleasing to the eye. But the lack of a VESA mount is very annoying. In the photo I posted, the monitor on the left is a 24" Dell IPS monitor that I mounted to this RevainBasics single monitor mounting arm. I want to do the same with this monitor to tidy up my desk but there is no VESA mount so I can't. Also, the stand is adjustable only to tilt up and down. I don't like looking at my monitors at an angle - I like looking straight at them. The speakers are very good and sound great for what they are. I have to admit that one of the reasons I bought this monitor was because I wanted to declutter my desk. But here's the problem. Depending on the sound source, you'll often want to change the sound mode from one of the presets (Movie, Music, Game, Standard, etc.). However, to get into this menu, you have to go through sub-menus. However, there is a way to assign a shortcut to one of the buttons at the bottom of the monitor so you can access it directly. Except that for some stupid reason, Asus decided that you can't assign a shortcut key to this sound mode menu. You can assign everything else, even useless ones, but not the sound mode. Another annoyance for me is the lack of a dedicated volume up/down button. That means 3 button presses before you can adjust the volume. It would also be nice to add support for volume control from the keyboard. I have a Mac and dedicated volume buttons that don't work with this monitor. My other audio devices work with keyboard volume keys, so it would be nice if Asus paid a little more attention to detail. Displayport and HDMI connection. I still have a 30 day return window so I'm still considering returning this monitor and buying a Dell VESA mount instead. I'm only hesitant about buying a monitor stand (which I can't return) because the stand for this monitor is so easy. Dell doesn't look as pretty as this monitor, nor does it have good speakers, although it does have USB ports. Update 11/10/2015: I have decided to return this monitor. Lighting issues have become bothersome enough because I'm a night owl and usually work late (and in the dark so I don't wake my wife). I also received a soundbar as a gift and the inability to place it under the monitor due to limited adjustability of the stand and no VESA mount severely limited my options. Any of these options would go a long way towards making this monitor that much more useful, but the lack of either makes this a difficult recommendation. I went back to my 24" 1920 x 1200 monitor (vertical monitor shown) and miss the extra real estate of a 27" 2560 x 1440 monitor and the aesthetics of that monitor. I think I'll just have to be patient and buy a 4K monitor if I have enough money to afford a 4K computer. So if you're lucky enough to get a screen without too much glare and can live with the limitations outlined in this review, this is a nice monitor that deserves the design awards it's won. I forgot to mention delivery details. The first order came in a box. The replacement order came in a PLASTIC BAG. The box was badly crumpled, but everything is fine with the monitor. For your information.
