Review on πŸ’‘ eTopxizu 12V 30A DC Universal Regulated Switching Power Supply 360W - Ideal for CCTV, Radio, Computer Projects by Nate Nelson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Inexpensive, with low residual ripple, but with a loud fan and oversized performance.

Seems like a good cheap power supply if you need a good current up to 20A or so. But it has a noisy fan and I don't think it can really handle 30A except for short periods of time. It was hooked up to an oscilloscope both under load at 24A and no load to see how the startup/shutdown and ripple is. All in all it looks decent, the difference under load and no load is very small which is good and the overall ripple seems to be less than 400mV even when drawing 24A with very little sag. There appear to be 2 fundamental frequencies in the output ripple, 50kHz and 625kHz. With no load there is a slight spike at start where the voltage briefly rises about 1.5V above the set value before stabilizing but that shouldn't be a problem, under load the voltage rises steadily to the set value. The shutdown looks fine either way, with no splashes or weird stuff. As for the bad things: the fan is very noisy and runs in on/off mode, turning on at around 45C and off at around 40C, no speed control and no thermals. The switch simply sits in the main inductance in the power supply and is not tied to anything. In the low-load standby mode, the fan turns on for a few seconds every 5-10 minutes. slight smell of overheated electronics, still haven't been able to determine where it's coming from but I wouldn't draw more than 20A from this unit, the 30A rating is extremely optimistic and will only apply to short pulses. Alternatives: If you want something higher-end with better components and quality control, the Mean Well RSP-320-12 is a great option, much cleaner output and a variable-speed, temperature-controlled fan.
