Review on Waste King L-1001 Garbage Disposal with Power Cord, 1/2 HP: Efficient and Reliable Waste Management Solution by David Golden

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not recommended for rough plumbing

Bought to replace an old Badger 5 that was rusty and leaking at the bottom where the power cord exits. I chose Waste King based on overall reviews and price. Received on September 14th and installed on September 15th and again on September 16th. The sink ring had a small dent on the inlet (no big deal) but plain non-shiny chrome with the Waste King logo as one reviewer said. Installation is fairly easy and tested with no leaks. However, when I turned it on and just let the water run, it leaked out and I wasn't sure if it was coming from the mounting plate or the sink flange. However, it did not come from a sinkhole. I removed it and checked the mounting pad and everything was fine. I reinstalled it with the same result of water leaking when the extinguisher is on but no leak when the extinguisher is off. All I could think of might be that when the vibration is on, it resets something. Other reviewers have mentioned this and agree that it's probably due to the so-called EZ mount with unsupported hard plastic that can wobble with vibrations. I called Waste King and it was a waste of time. I was told the unit was fine (surprise!) and that I should hire a plumber if I wanted to keep this unit, but they were happy to offer me another ("better") model for about $200. The traditional 3-screw mount is better and stronger. Also, unlike the listing, the grinding mechanism is made of galvanized steel, NOT stainless steel. Lesson learned. Returned to Kolya landing point on September 16. Kudos to Revain for the great service and easy returns process. I just bought a $100 Moen GX50C (3 bolt mount and real stainless steel with a 4 year home warranty so you get what you pay for.
