The only thing wrong with the charcoal filter is that it doesn't come with instructions on how to flush it before use. Both the activated carbon filter and the HEPA filter were shipped individually sealed in plastic wrap. I didn't see much dust after unpacking the activated carbon filter. I saw about the same amount of dust washed out of the charcoal filter as the original. Use the old activated carbon filter while you wait for the new one to dry. The cardboard frame around the HEPA filter is not as strong as the original. It doesn't look like it should be. I noticed a noticeable improvement in airflow after replacing the old dirty HEPA filter.
