We needed this for our school age kids who use pencils every day. This is a quick and dirty way to do math homework, but we plan to replace it soon. If you're using a new, never-sharpened pencil, forget it. Gets tangled up quickly. The tip is never quite sharp, but our kids don't care. You will only stop two problems to sharpen the pencil again. Our biggest complaint is how rough the sharpened part is. We need to use this to get it as close as possible and then use a cheap hand sharpener to smooth it out. Ultimately, it's a waste of money. It just isn't powerful enough, no matter how fresh the batteries are, and the cut is poor. This can work well on really soft pencils that aren't hardwood.
