My sofa has a wider armrest that can be used as a cushion. It's almost as wide as a table, but it can fit. I can imagine that it works better with a narrower armrest. With my kids running onto the sofa, it jumped out and fell to the ground many times. 2 side panels fell off but I just nailed them back and still use them. When secured, I can confidently put my drinks down without having to worry about it while my kids are away. It doesn't fit on my sofa because of the wide and soft armrest, but I can still use it.
