I just received this feeder and have not been able to use it yet. First Impressions: It's solid enough and should work fine, but only for large seeds and edibles. The mesh is less fine than I thought and small seeds will fall through. I've included some photos to demonstrate the size of the mesh holes. I poured a bowl of "top grade" seeds into the feeder and gave it a little shake. You can see what's still inside and what's slipped through the cracks (mainly millet and niger seeds). All this to say that I bought this basket to offer a mix of fruits and nuts, so I'm sure it will work well for my needs. .UPDATE: I changed my rating from four to three stars. This feeder has been in use for two days now and small pieces of my fruit and nut mix easily fall through the mesh when the birds shake the feeder. I'm no expert, but I don't think many seed mixes can be effectively offered in this feeder. At least it works well with sunflower seeds, shelled or unshelled. My husband will put a layer of thin metal mesh on it so we can feed more birds and fewer squirrels.
