We are "beginners" when it comes to electric trailer brakes and were completely clueless when it came to brake control units. After watching videos about this product and reading other reviews we went with it because it looked like it would be easy to set up and not too expensive. Well, our assumptions turned out to be correct. We had no trouble installing and setting up our vintage camper trailer mated to our Ford F-150. Our RV weighs only 1,600 pounds and we even considered not using RV brakes at all, but after researching the various trailer braking laws in many states, we found that even if our state were fine without brakes connected, we would still oppose others would violate states with stricter laws. Having this controller made the process easier and we also felt it was a good idea to use our brakes as it had a big impact on our stopping power even on a light motorhome.
