Terrible for a single din radio

I bought this kit to fit an Alpine CD-172BT single din radio to a 1999 4Runner Limited. I've installed many car stereos over the last 25 years and usually have no problem getting "universal" sets to work after a few modifications. I was able to hook up the wiring harnesses, 2 amplifiers, component speakers in the doors, a subwoofer, noise isolation and MLV with no problems. But this kit made everything look like a stereo when installing the 101. Due to the hole pattern on the radio, I couldn't install it deep enough. So when it came time to reattach the dash bezel, it hit the radio before it fully snapped into place. And even if I did, the gaps were so big that I still wouldn't have kept it. Eventually I found another kit made by another major dash kit manufacturer. It's actually just a bag that attaches to a factory mount and fits perfectly with no gaps. It was also $7 cheaper and made in the USA. I also didn't have a lot of unused parts left over. Keep in mind that the problem was the placement of the holes on the radio and that may be why some of the others had no trouble fitting them. But if there were more holes in the brackets, maybe everything would be fine. So if you have a similar car/stereo save a lot of time and get a less "universal" kit.

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Very expensive
