As the name suggests. You have to screw it into something like a 6" x 6" board or there will be no stability when sharpening. The product is made of aluminum and while strong, it doesn't have the weight to balance when you're sharpening. My only complaint about this product is that the post required a bit more milling to allow most of the knife holder to fit over the entire post (it sits back a few mm which reduces its stability) and that the stylus is kind of prone to this to loosen/unscrew after about 30-40 passes. which sharpening angle you choose.
