Review on 🕹️ Enhance Control with the HiLetgo 12V 40V Controller Switch Module by Tony Reid

The one I got was a moderately simple circuit based on a 555 timer using a TO220 RU7088R 6mΩ N-channel FET with a SBR40100 flyback diode " TO220 driving. Using a car radiator fan rated at 11.5A @ 13V, the device showed a temperature rise of about 14°C on the PCB and 9°C on the FET heatsink after about 20 minutes Operating at 90% duty cycle as measured with a thermal imaging camera Somewhat surprisingly, the cheap, no-name 7812 voltage regulator was one of the hottest components on the board, but still not that bad (I'm sure at a supply voltage over 13 volts would be worse.) Unsurprisingly, the seemingly cheap PCB traces were one of the hottest parts of the board, rated at over 11 amps.While the FET ratings aren't bad (70V/80A), I wouldn't t recommend getting even close to them as the flyback diode is only rated for 20A as one branch of the diode is used for reverse polarity protection in the wiring. I studied it and did a little torture test because I wanted to make sure it wasn't a solid piece that would explode instantly. The edges were controlled smoothly enough that the jumps from this particular fan sent no more than 16V (with a 13V supply). The amount of feedback is determined by the inductance of the motor you're playing with, so it's hard to tell what the true limits of this part are. Personally I would keep loads at or below 24V supply voltage. If I'm using a really heavy inductive load I might add a few extra filter caps at the motor output. In fact, I'd say that this device could easily handle 15A switching with just a 12V fuse change for moderately inductive motor loads if the PCB were reinforced with extra wires to distribute the current along the motor control path. The problems encountered at 13V/11A are only exacerbated when this device is used outside of its rating.
