Review on πŸ” Ridgid 36163 Model Micro CD-100: Advanced Combustible Gas Detector & Leak Detector by Mike Weaver

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excellent combustible gas detection - tool needs rework

As mentioned, the sensor will heat up in about half a minute when first switched on. This is in the manual and is expected. So it doesn't mean turning on the tool immediately and moving on. Haven't encountered the timeout issue yet, but note that the manual says the device turns itself off after 10 minutes of inactivity - toggling from low to high seems to help others, and when you do it stays on . Detects many flammable gases well. The vent hose from the motorcycle's fuel tank detects this vapor. After checking with a butane gas lighter, it lights up. I found a small leak in a gas line in the attic. The buttons are nice and feel good - they're real buttons and no plastic wrap covering the tiny buttons underneath. The instructions are fairly simple, but there aren't many complex settings on this thing. My biggest gripe is that it was new in the box and the flexible rod inside the box was drastically bent where it enters the device - this is to receive it in a like new case. This will damage the coiled metal of the flex tube so now that the sensor is almost or fully extended the end of the sensor will move... If you rotate the tool while looking for a leak the end will move instead of still to stay . So when you need to be specific, it makes things a little harder. A sharp bend will damage the flexible tubing directly at the strain relief location. A slightly longer case that didn't require as much flexing of the wand might have helped. I taped the area that isn't as strong as the rest with tape to ease the tension a bit. Gets it about 70% of where it should be (it should all have the same flex resistance and it doesn't disappoint). 5 stars for finding things and usefulness, up to three for the annoying not-so-big wand. .
