This tool is identical to the original Mercedes tool so should only get 5 points. Ratings below 5 stars are ridiculous. I've had several other inferior versions over the years. It has high-low temperature markings, not just a 1-12 rating like many other imitations. Also, it's packaged in such a way that the tip doesn't bend like many other cheap products. This is the real $11 deal and is absolutely identical to the original version. Please note that there is an "Easy to Install" rating. This tool is NOT installed, it is simply used and then removed from the vehicle. As for the others who gave it a rating of less than 5, I took the time to read some of those reviews and was stunned. With all due respect, if you don't know what you are doing then you should not use this tool as you could damage your transmission! Various comments were: Someone complained that the instructions were missing. Another said they needed instructions to find the dipstick tube. If you really don't know how to operate a car and where to look for WIS information (work instructions) about your car, then you shouldn't use this tool. Also, 722.6 transmission vehicles have dipstick tubes in different locations so these instructions CANNOT be supplied with a dipstick tool. Another complaint was that the tool was too long. News Flash! This is a MUST, as it works on various vehicles with a 722.6 gearbox and the spring shaft does not go through completely. The shoulder at the base of the tip rests against the gear box where the tube goes during insertion, which needs to be done with care! Another broke the tip. Again, don't use this tool unless you know what you're doing as you can break the tip. It shouldn't be pushed further into the gearing than it will go and you'll still have plenty of spring shaft dangling. This comment was clearly coming from someone trying to fit the entire spring shaft into the gearbox. Others were unfortunate that it didn't work with their C Class, ML350, Sprinter etc. Well, no, of course not. This is specific to the 722.6 gearbox. Find the correct part number for your transmission at a Mercedes dealership, then find an aftermarket replacement! Or use a reputable dealer like FCP Euro for a cross reference. There was a comment that the lace was flimsy. This is a plastic tip tool that looks just like the original Mercedes version. The original original version was made by Febi which you can find for less than $25 and is EXACTLY like this one. The tip feels just as hard as the original, which isn't as hard. Should be used with care and if the tip looks damaged or worn it's time for a new one. The tip is specially made of plastic in case it ever breaks in the gearbox so as not to damage the internal parts of the gearbox. A metal tip would destroy the transmission. My favorite comment was 2 stars - the tip is plastic that drips oil so you can't read anything. This is the nature of any probe. They are difficult to read and you have to use bright light and do it quickly to see the liquid trails. Another said it was a rip off because they didn't get the red locking pin for the lid. So someone didn't get a locking pin (I had one), but for $10 I feel it's a bit of an overstatement to say it's a plagiarism because it's missing. If you buy this tool I assume you will be checking the transmission oil level regularly otherwise why buy this tool? In any case you will have to buy a pack of locking pins because they will be needed every time you check the fluid level as you will have to break the old one to check the fluid level. Locking pins cost about $5 for a pack of 5. (Dorman part number 917-299) One said they had to leave the gauge behind because of the length (when the car was running) and hope they don't lose it. For real? Under no circumstances should he be left in these programs. Again, don't mess around with your transmission because you don't really understand what you're doing.
