I didn't buy it to clean cast iron, I bought it as a hack for solo ovens. To use wood pellets as fuel you need a layer of soil that will prevent the pellets from falling through the grate. Well I can safely say that this product worked great for this project. I bought two packs, so the set included a large and a smaller chain mail. The larger is perfect for a solo stove fire, and the smaller is perfect for a solo titanium stove. Yes, you can buy a roll of stainless steel mesh, but then you'll be dealing with sharp edges. If the net is woven and not welded, the net will fall apart and will be difficult to clean after burning. This solution makes cleaning easier, has no sharp edges and costs almost the same as wire mesh and metal shears. Will buy again as the high temperature of solo kilns wears down the piece over time.
