Review on Moen 14272 Cartridge Retainer Removal by Alfonso Wilson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Special tool for a specific Moen type

Great tool. Quite easy. You could make one with the right piece of pipe and an hour or so. Or come up with a workaround. I had no problems with the repair. I poured in some penetrating lubricant and the ring came out easily without the use of a lever. Very easy job, you don't even have to remove the faucet handle. Using gripping gloves, remove the base, remove the small extension if present, remove the cartridge retaining ring with this tool and pull out the cartridge with needle nose pliers. Slight lightness. Assemble: Use the tool to tighten the ring with your fingers. There is a tab on the bottom of the cartridge that fits into a slot in the ring. I've had trouble with it but keep trying to get it in place and struggling to plant it. If you used a penetrating oil, wash the hole with soapy water or just use it and the taste will disappear. Once you figure out the easiest way to fix a faucet!

Pros
  • SPARE PART: Ideal for repairing problematic plumbing without having to replace it
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
