I bought these because I wanted to be able to splice 2x4 and 2x6 lumber to build cheap solid furniture for my kids and they still work great . Verticals are worth the extra money, especially if you have a table saw like the Dewalt 745, as there isn't much room for a wide carriage. Because the hooks are clamped in a vertical position, you can have a fairly narrow sled without worrying about the hooks cutting into the table saw guard. I'll probably take another pair to build a sled that's better tuned to joining 3/4" stock instead of 1-1/2" wood.
