I mainly use my NAS for audio and video storage. I needed more storage space than I had on my ASUSTOR NAS and decided to try QNAP. There have been intermittent issues with HDMI audio output since the beginning. Sometimes I have sound, sometimes it gets distorted and interrupted, and then (LIKE NOW!) it all goes haywire. Also constant flickering on the video. Got an open service ticket with QNAP, but this is getting pretty annoying. It actually took me more than the 30 day DOA Revain policy to get this device up and running. Keep that in mind when you buy one. Mine was NOT DOA but had issues that made it unreliable and therefore unusable for my purposes. ** 2nd update ** QNAP engineers sent me the following: firmware v4.4.2 build 20200529 and hybrid desktop 4.0.6 . Can you try downgrading the hybrid desktop station firmware and app and then check if the HDMI audio output is stable? I would recommend backing up all data first before downgrading. Please follow this procedure to downgrade the firmware. "Downgrading the firmware isn't a viable answer in my opinion. I think I'm stuck with a lemon. Attached is a video of the flickering I'm getting. **1st UPDATE** Took a while but with a few cryptic emails in it and back and just one question for me, "someone" thought it would be a good idea to send it in for repair A valid option but not very smart for what I need Here is my answer: I reserve the right to warranty service if other faults occur or this unit further expires Repair? That would be an extremely stupid roll of the dice for me. I have little faith in "repairing" such items. I bet your experience is about the same are the ghosts that come back with a 'repairable' item and haunt me the entire time I try to use it... Not to mention the extra time I have no data access . Send me a motherboard the one and I will modify it myself but send it away.... I understand your position but protecting my own data and performance is my primary concern. The issues relate to the HDMI audio and display capabilities, not the storage and retrieval of "still" data. .If I take the disks out of the unit and ship it to a "location" in Georgia where everything they do is diagnose as per the instructions, I get the same unit back with the same problems. Therefore, in order to protect my data, I need to copy it to another medium on another device. It seems like a logical decision for me to buy another device and find someone willing to use it despite its shortcomings. Call my experience with QNAP bad and go back to ASUSTOR.** 3rd update The QNAP service ticket is no longer available to me. They closed it with no solution. A customer service survey has been sent. I basically told them I had a lemon and would donate it to the local HS Science Club if they could use it. Back to ASUSTOR. Good luck guys, I think QNAP is done.
